Photograph by Frederick A. Hudson
In the portrait are the Reverend William Stainton Moses (also known as M.A.Oxon) also Mr and Mrs Parkes with the photographed Spirit, which was later recognized as their mother. 1873

Frederick A Hudson is claimed to be the first Spirit photographer in England. Hudson started in March 1872, then went on to produce a regular amount of Spirit images with his human subjects individual and personal photographic plates up until about 1879.

The Reverend William Stainton Moses did hundreds of experiments with Hudson to try and get at the truth. In later years he published many articles after he was convinced that Hudson was genuine. When under test conditions Hudson continued to have the Spirit World place the deceased people in Spirit they could recognize onto the photographic plates with their relatives or friends.

Alfred Russel Wallace with the Spirit of his mother, 1874

Alfred Russel Wallace, was a very well known scientist of his day who truly profoundly believed in happenings of spiritualistic phenomena and took it as fact that it really was a reality. Wallace wrote about the taking of the photograph in the book A Defense of Modern Spiritualism 1875, p.190-191.

Quote: On March 14th, 1874, I went to Hudson's, by appointment, for the first and only time, accompanied by Mrs.Guppy, as Medium. I expected that if I got any Spirit picture it would be that of my eldest brother, in whose name messages had frequently been received through Mrs Guppy. Before going to Hudson's I sat with Mrs G., and had a communication by raps with the effect that my mother would appear on the plate if she could. I sat three times, always choosing my own position. Each time a second figure appeared in the negative with me. (...) I recognized none of these figures in the negatives; but the moment I got the proofs, the first glance showed me that the third plate contained an unmistakable portrait of my mother, - like her both in features and in expression; not such a likeness as a portrait taking during life, but somewhat pensive, idealized likeness - yet still, to me, an unmistakable likeness.

An ordinary person from the street with a Spirit form, 1872-75

F.M. Parkes was a self taught photographer who used his Mediumistic powers linking with the Spirit World to gain more knowledge of the art of photographing the Spirit extras. With the help of the Spirit World he started earning a living by this method in 1872 onwards. Seeing he needed someone to help him whist in an altered state, and with his shop work, he asked Mr. Reeves the owner of the dining rooms near to his shop in Kings Cross London. Most of his Spirit Extras were placed onto the photographic plates by the Spirit World when they both worked together.

When conditions were at their best they even produced fully formed Spirit Forms and very distinct faces of the loved ones of the sitters. This is what was happening with the other photographers of the day with the likes of Frederick Hudson and William Mumler.

Over the years the pair whilst they were testing out all their many ways of going about their craft had unusual images on their plates, like flashes of light, and cloudy images, or a white smearing on their photographic plates, some of the many times meaning different things to the sitters.

The Reverend William Stainton Moses was convinced Parkes photographs were genuine, because not only did he use his own place of work, but also many were taken when away from his photographic studios, and the plates were swapped without him knowing and the phenomena still happened.

From Mrs Thorn, sitters are mother and daughter with quite a few Spirit images imposed into the plate. The Spirit which is more prominent in the photograph has been enlarged and shown in the photograph on the right. Look closely and more than two Spirit extras can be seen on the photograph on the left.

Unknown sitter with two Spirit extras both of them were recognised as her husband and brother in law by the sitter after the photographic plate had been developed.

Cousins with the father of the one on the right who was in the Spirit World, he is shown in a cloud of extoplasmic energy on the photograph.

One of the cousins taken on her own and her father appeared on the photograph for all to see and recognise, proving he never died, he has just carried on in another vibration yes in a different  dimension.
